As many of you might know by now, I'm from Kentucky and go to college here. Out of all the nice cars I've seen rich kids have here, including Raptors, an Evoque, Mustangs, Corvettes and an assortment of BMWs, this is the only car I've seen that lives with a cover on it. A Nissan Juke.

Really? I mean really? It's Kentucky and it's a Juke. That car would be fine without a cover. Some people are just dumb.

Maybe it's the automotive equilavent of a paper bag over it's head? Like you enjoy riding it...ahem..driving it, but you don't really want to look at it?

It's not meant to protect the car; it's to protect the people.

Even if they aren't expensive performance cars, many people love their cars and take great pride in them. I cover my crappy little Focus for that reason, and it's not as nice as this dude's Juke.

So the juke is the 4-wheel equivalent of a moped. You enjoy it a lot but you don't want your friends to catch you with it.

Probably for the same reason I almost bought one for my Soul (before I moved and got a garage)...

When I bought my new car, my old car's finish was starting to go. This is a relatively common problem in Florida. Between the humidity, the hot sun, and the pelting rain, it can be rough on a car's finish even if you're washing and waxing. So, if you don't have a garage or covered parking, a car cover is one of the few options when you're going to park your car for a relatively long period of time exposed to the elements.

He may just be trying to protect something that he/she spent some money on and is potentially still paying for.

Then again I could be pretty dumb.

It's nice to see someone take pride in what they own. One day, this Juke will find a new home with an owner who appreciates the care the previous owner provided.

But nothing bad is going to happen to it outside, is it? What is there to protect it from? The sun is only gonna do so much, and those windshield reflectors are effective for me

When I was a freshman in college, one of the kids in the dorm room next to mine was this really obnoxious kid from NYC whose dad had some cash from owning a speaker store or some shit. Daddy was into 911's, and the kid was naturally a huge Porsche fanatic who would yap your damn ear off about how they were the pinnacle of engineering and nothing could ever compare, my dad's gonna buy me one, blah blah blah, I love Aerosmith, check out the stereo in my room, blah, etc.

Kid got a really clean 944 the next year and always kept it under a cover in the student parking lots, which was totally the kind of thing I would expect him to do. A freaking 944 under a car cover. College sophomore. Fuck.

Have to admit, though, I really liked the car.

I bought the cover last year to protect the car from dust and everything while it was stored in my parents' garage during college, so I had it to begin with. I use it now just as a matter of convenience. I don't drive often (college) and my assigned parking spot is under a tree, so if I don't cover it I have to pull a ton of leaves and pinwheels from the hood gap or else they fly up while driving. As for paint, my car's starting to fade (red paint too, so it fades worse due to the pigments used), and I'd like to not make it worse.

I do realize how dumb it is to cover a $5,000 car, and you're completely right in that windshield reflectors should be enough, but still, it's my car, man! I want to keep it nice(-ish).

I love my little car to death, too, but I don't think I've met a single SVT Focus owner who hasn't had issues with their car. What year is yours, and what problems have you had? Mine's a 2003 that I've owned for the last two years with 105,000 miles. I've only had to replace an IMRC actuator, the oil gauge cluster, and the downstream O2 sensor beyond a bunch of regular maintenance (tie rod ends, spark plugs and wires, valve cover gasket, brakes, etc.) but I've heard horror stories from other owners.

Mine is a 2004 with about 107k on it that I've had for 2 years. I've actually kept a spreadsheet to log everything I've done to the car since I got it... I'm just glad I've done most of the work myself or it would have cost me quite a bit.

Lets see since I bought it I've replaced.. spark plugs, wires, ignition coil, battery, exhaust (previous owner's was way too ricey), both o2 sensors, fuel filter, clutch master cylinder, radiator cooling fan resistor and some wiring (previous owner removed heat shield from the header which melted some bits), belts, tensioners, water pump, valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, passenger side motor mount, ignition cylinder and some other misc little things.

I still have some things to do.. the car has a few quirks and the CEL is constantly on for P0420, I thought it was a bad rear o2 sensor but it may actually be the cat.

I still love the car. Though it's funny that it's my daily driver when it has so many problems.

Here's a pic of the SVT and 240z getting intimate in the garage (I killed the 240's battery, oops).

Wow you've had some issues with that thing. Bonus points for the Euro grille, I have one right now but I haven't had the chance to install it. I also have front sway bar links and passenger and driver side motor mounts to put onthis winter break, but other than that the car's good.

I use my Focus to deliver pizzas, which is a terrible occupation for an SVT owner to have. It's an absolute joy to hop in the car during a busy Friday or Saturday night and just drive, but then you spend Sunday fixing it haha. Glad you love yours. Here's mine. Even with its issues I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Hey Stoke! I'm thinking of picking up a 944 someday soon, so I have to ask; Do you mean "A freaking 944 under a car cover" in an "Oh, that's a cool car- too good for a college kid to have" way, or a "Who puts a 944 under a car cover?" sort of way. Neither way would offend me- I like the car, just wondering!

Too good for a college kid to have. They're awesome cars, and I would definitely protect mine if I had one. But seriously, nineteen years old?

Nice, I always thought the car looked great in red. Yeah I got the euro grille after I changed out my headlights. It was kind of silly having the extra turn signal lights on the grill.

Over the winter I want to do a bit of work on it to get it up to 100%.. new suspension and everything. I plan on doing rallycross at summit point in the spring if I can get everything done in time.

Very cool man, looks fantastic in black as well, especially with the lights. Rallycross would be awesome in one of these things, hopefully you get all the suspension sorted out by then so you can post some pics on here. I'm staying away from tracking and autocrossing mine until I get some things sorted out, but it's always cool to see other guys taking their SVTF's out.
